A son finds an old recording in his car and is thrilled. Then he finds out: It comes from his father. Thanks to Tiktok, the 40-year-old number is now a hit.

The song is already 40 years old. But only now did “Surrender To Me” reach the public. And became a hit. The radio number with catchy tune potential was penned by William “Curly” Smith. He owes his unexpected success to his son Zach Smith.

The 19-year-old shared a video on Tiktok on Jan. 4, which has since garnered 3.2 million views. In it, Zach can be seen in his car, turning up the music and saying that he found this song in his car. He had never heard him before. And he’s excited. “It’s funk, but it’s so good”. He’s over the moon, holds his hands to his head in disbelief and plays an imaginary keyboard to the catchy melody. The song is just damn good.

So Zach Smith finds a song he really likes and then finds out it’s his dad’s song. Young Smith is a musician himself and is on Tiktok as Zach Montana. He uploads the video of himself in the car with his father’s song. Then he goes to bed. And wake up the next morning to find that the clip has been played by thousands of people. So it reports the “Guardian”. He told the newspaper: “I woke up to messages from people I never get, like my hairstylist.” They too were impressed by the song. A publication was requested in the comments on Tiktok.

Through Tiktok to a viral hit

There are now. Father and son were in the studio together in January and re-released the play. It can be heard on Spotify. William “Curly” Smith says it was a “lucky coincidence” that his song became a viral hit.

And maybe “Surrender To Me” will be even bigger. After some of Zach’s followers suggested that the song would fit perfectly with the disco-inspired soundtrack of Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s music director actually suggested the song to director James Gunn. There are no promises, but it is good timing, since a continuation of the film series is planned. It would be the culmination of this story: “We’re huge Marvel fans,” Zach Smith told the Guardian.
