This year there are more ticks than ever before, warns expert Gerhard Dobler. Who he recommends vaccination for, why he expects a sharp increase in infections and where Munich has one of the largest tick populations in Bavaria.

Gerhard Dobler has been a professor at the Bundeswehr Institute for Microbiology since 2005, where he heads virology. In 2013 he habilitated at the University of Göttingen on “Tick-borne viruses in Germany”. In 2015 he was appointed head of the National Consultative Laboratory for tick-borne encephalitis (TBE).
