Three young people, swept away by a flooded river, die drowned in Italy

A tragedy affected three young people on Friday May 31 in the north-east of Italy. Two women and a man, aged between 20 and 25, died, drowned, swept away by the sudden flood of the Natisone river, in Premariacco.

Images were broadcast by Italian television, TG1. We see the three victims, trapped in the middle of the current, embracing each other to resist the force of the rising water. They end up losing their footing while the firefighters try to come to their aid. In these images, taken during the rescue operation, a firefighter, perched on a large ladder, throws three ropes to try to recover the three young people from the water. In vain.

Trapped by rising water and current

According to Corriere del Veneto, at this time, the Natisone river reaches around fifteen meters deep. The flow rate increased from 20 m3 per second to 135 m3 in an hour and a half. Emergency services found the lifeless bodies of Patrizia Cormos, a 21-year-old Italian woman, and Bianca Doros, a 23-year-old Romanian woman, several hours later. The third victim, Cristian Casian Molnar, 25, is still actively sought.
