Three shootings in the middle of the street this weekend, “no link at this stage” according to justice

The day after the fatal shooting in the Malakoff district, east of Nantes, the public prosecutor announced on Monday that an investigation for assassination had been opened and entrusted to the Nantes judicial police. A 27-year-old man was killed Sunday, around 6:30 p.m., targeted by several bullets. The shooter, who is still actively sought, would have arrived on foot rue d’Angleterre, “fired several times”, before leaving on foot, indicates the prosecutor. The victim, of Algerian nationality, had no official address. However, she was known to the justice services for having been arrested a month earlier for selling tobacco on the sly in downtown Nantes. She was also to appear in Aix-en-Provence next June for theft.

The homicide, which occurred in the heart of the district, an hour away, shocked the inhabitants of Malakoff. His motive is undetermined at this time. “Of course, we wonder whether there is a link with drug trafficking. But we cannot affirm it at this stage”, indicates Renaud Gaudeul, the public prosecutor.

The day before, 6.5 kilometers from the scene of the tragedy, another shooting had broken out near Mc Donald’s in the Beaujoire district. Around 6 p.m., an armed individual opened fire on a 4×4 type vehicle. The scene was filmed, a casing was also found on the spot. However, no injuries were reported, the prosecutor said.

A man injured in the lower back

One injured, there was one, Friday evening, rue de Toronto, between the Bout-des-Landes and Chêne des Anglais districts, north of Nantes. Around 10:45 p.m., a 20-year-old man was reportedly targeted by at least three shots. One of them hit him in the lower back. The days of the victim, still hospitalized, are not in danger. She was unfavorably known to justice, her record mentioning four convictions. The suspect is said to have fled on foot.

Is there a link between these three cases which strongly resemble settling scores? “At this stage, there is no link between these episodes”, indicates Renaud Gaudeul, cautious. There is also no link with Kalashnikov fire that occurred in the Malakoff district, already on February 12. Since January 1, 2023, nine episodes of shooting have been recorded in Nantes, causing five injuries and one death.
