Three men found guilty of attempted murder against police officers in Viry-Châtillon (Essonne) in 2016 decided to appeal to the Supreme Court, their lawyers said, confirming information from Europe 1. They were sentenced on Sunday to eighteen years in prison.
The cassation appeal constitutes a means of appeal open against the decisions rendered in the last resort, that is to say against the judgments of the courts of appeal or judgments which cannot be appealed.
The other two convicted will not go to cassation
At the end of the six weeks of closed trial, the Paris Assize Court for minors sentenced a total of five young men, including the three mentioned above. Another was sentenced to eight years in prison, and the last six years. The latter two will not appeal in cassation, said their lawyers.
The other eight defendants were acquitted. This verdict was denounced by the police unions, the victims’ lawyers and part of the political class, because it was considered too lenient.
