They are trapped in a burning car. In full fire by Quentin Reynaud, presented at the Gérardmer Festival, traps Alex Lutz and André Dussollier in the heart of the flames in the Landes for a suffocating film. “It was the family tragedy that appealed to me, like the idea of placing the spectator in the action with the characters”, explains Alex Lutz to 20 minutes.
Quentin Reynaud, director of 5th Set And Paris Willouby, offers the comedian an exciting new role as the duo he forms with André Dussollier, an aging father and son, attempt to escape suffocation as the world burns around them. “Reality becomes a hell, which gives a gripping atmosphere,” insists Alex Lutz. And it is true that the film flirts with genre cinema as the heroes suddenly seem disconnected from all normality to be confined in a setting with glowing hues between the landscape of Mars and Gehenna.
A filial complicity
“The most surprising thing is that we mainly shot in the studio,” explains Alex Lutz. There was obviously no question of lighting any fire whatsoever in the forest. The result is breathtaking leaving the audience breathless with the impression of feeling the fire around them. “I believe that the almost filial complicity that has developed between André Dussollier and me contributes a great deal to the identification of the public. Our relationships have rubbed off on the characters and make them endearing in the ordeal they have to share,” says Alex Lutz. The complementary performances of these two remarkable actors bring a poignant humanity to a thriller as original as it is full of suspense.
