Announced for several weeks as the favorite of the 2021 regional elections, the National Rally (RN) struggled to hide its disappointment on the evening of the results. “Our voters did not come, I call for a start,” said Marine Le Pen. The candidates of the National Rally, as the spokespersons present on the television sets put forward the historic abstention to explain their disappointing scores during this first round.

The novelty of this election lies in the way in which the RN officials called “their” voters to order. Some headliners have spoken out against the abstainers with a certain vehemence: “I ask you to move”, thus blurted out. Sebastien Chenu, the party’s candidate in Hauts-de-France, largely dominated by Xavier Bertrand (Various right). Same tone from the candidate’s side in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté,
Julien odoul, second on the evening of the first round: “Awake”.

Scores lower than 2015

If Thierry Mariani, in the lead in the PACA region, and Jordan Bardella, who came far behind Valérie Pécresse (Libres!) In Île-de-France, used more measured words, the tone remained at the injunction.

The National Rally recorded, on the evening of this first round, nearly ten points less than in 2015, a score well below the expectations of the far-right party.
