These bands are playing at the Sound of Munich Now – Munich this year

40 bands, 80 videos, 65 410 views. This is the Corona balance of the “Sound of Munich Now” festival in numbers. Actually an institution among the live events in Munich since 2009, it had to take place digitally for the past two years. After all, because most of the other festivals have been completely canceled.

After all? What was actually intended as an emergency solution has proven itself in the long run. This is exemplified by the success story of Umm Block, whose performance in 2020 with more than 5000 views is the most watched video on the “Sound of Munich Now” YouTube channel. For comparison: around 500 people fit into the Hansa 39. “It’s great to have such professional material. Especially at this stage, where most of the bands who are invited are. You can hardly afford that as a newcomer.” , says Leoni Klinger. Since concerts have been possible again, Leoni Klinger and Klara Rebers have been touring throughout Germany and beyond. Also thanks to the video they sent to festival and concert organizers. “You have a better argument with that, because a booker can imagine it better: What can they do live?”

This is also a reason why the celebrations together with the Süddeutsche Zeitung has decided to let the festival take place digitally again this year. Each band stood in front of the camera of videographers Bernhard Schinn and Marcel Chylla from Ideal Entertainment. A virtue was made out of necessity and the history of the “Sound of Munich Now” was again enriched by 20 talents. To stick with the numbers: 239 Munich bands have now played at the SZ Festival.

This year the following line-up was chosen: Barska and the Factory (indie folk pop), Bonnie (indie/electro pop), Carol Kelley (folk pop), Commence (post metal core), Enji + Popp (experimental), Gundalein (Rap), INLINE (punk rock/nu metal), John Dash (Rap), Juliet Lock (Pop / R’n’B), KIDSØ (electric), Kinga (soul/pop) malva (Pop), Marlena Dae (Jazz, R’n’B / Pop), Maxi Pongratz (dialect polka), Miss Mellow (psychedelic rock), pink blood (Skirt), Santans (prog/indie) Sarah Bugar (indie pop), be crazy (Punk), Versacer (In the).
