The world No. 1 “disappointed and surprised” by the appeal from the World Anti-Doping Agency

The cold shower. Jannik Sinner said he was “disappointed and surprised” by the appeal filed a few hours earlier by the World Anti-Doping Agency in a case concerning him, Saturday on the sidelines of the China tournament in Beijing. The world number 1 reacted after his success in the second round over Russian Roman Safiulin (3-6, 6-2, 6-3).

“We cannot control everything,” argued the 23-year-old Italian, whose suspension WADA is requesting for one to two years for two positive tests for clostebol, a steroid, last March, when he had been previously cleared by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (Itia).

In his defense, the winner this year of the Australian Open and then the US Open had pleaded involuntary contamination, because of massages provided by his physiotherapist at the time, who would have treated a wound on a finger with a over-the-counter spray.
