His stage characters were mostly just as bizarre as he looked with his funny blue eyes and his tousled hair on his high forehead: The Swiss actor Michael Gempart was a theatrical eccentric, highly idiosyncratic in his looks as well as in his roles. “No stage adventure is too daring, no role too big or too small,” is how the director of Munich’s Residenztheater Andreas Beck describes him in a tribute at the Theater website. And further: “He was a dedicated actor, a divo (the Italians would call him that), a youngster who tried everything, wanted to know and explore everything.”
