The ecological thriller series “Der Schwarm” has an impressive number of hits in the ZDF media library, as the Mainz broadcaster has now announced.

In the past few days, the eco-thriller series “Der Schwarm” based on the novel by Frank Schätzing (65) celebrated its free TV premiere on ZDF. The eight-part series event has been available in the ZDF media library since February 22 – and has developed into a success story in the streaming area: the international series can record a total of 18 million views there around two weeks after the start, like announced by ZDF in a press release.

Great audience interest in “The Swarm”

According to the broadcaster, the show recorded the best streaming start since the ZDF media library was founded. The first two episodes are said to have reached an average of 1.97 million viewers so far, according to ZDF. The Mainz broadcaster has also published new figures for the linear TV broadcast from March 6th to 9th. An average of 5.5 million viewers was reached, which corresponds to a market share of 19.9 percent.

“Der Schwarm” is the most expensive television production in German-speaking countries to date, calculated in terms of the number of minutes broadcast. Directed by former “Game of Thrones” producer Frank Doelger, the series tells of a series of mysterious events that befall humanity from the depths of the oceans. A group of international scientists discovers that an unknown species exists that is attacking humanity.
