The suspect, who presented himself to the central police station in Marseille on Saturday, explained “that he knew the home of the couple in which he had carried out work a few months earlier”, details the public prosecutor of Aix-en -Provence Jean-Luc Blachon in a press release.

Multiple blows to the head

According to the latter, the suspect stated that he had decided on this burglary to solve his financial problems, indicating that he had consumed alcohol and narcotics. But once in the house, he said he was “surprised by the impromptu arrival of the owner in the garage”, adding that he hit him with a hammer, before then fatally hitting his wife in the same way, completed the prosecutor.

The two victims, aged 80 and 84, were killed following multiple blows to the head, according to their autopsies. The suspect allegedly stole cash, objects and means of payment. According to Jean-Luc Blachon, his statements are “largely corroborated” by the findings made at the crime scene.
