At the time of the crime he had consumed large amounts of drugs and alcohol, says the accused in the rape trial in Upper Swabia. The man did not give a reason for the crime.

In the trial for the rape of an 85-year-old in Weingarten, Upper Swabia, the accused confessed to the crime at the start on Friday. The 31-year-old had his defense attorney explain at the Ravensburg District Court that he would admit the crime in August 2021.

In the subsequent interrogation, the 31-year-old initially claimed that there were gaps in his memory, but ultimately admitted to the rape of the elderly woman, who was unknown to him.

The defendant did not give a reason for the crime. He stated in court that he regularly consumed large amounts of drugs and alcohol and heard voices. According to the preliminary opinion of an expert, there are indications of a possible schizophrenic disease in the man, said a court spokesman.

The 31-year-old with German and Brazilian nationality is accused of pushing the 85-year-old down a slope, raping her and leaving her with life-threatening injuries. A passer-by discovered them by accident about an hour later.

The 31-year-old was arrested shortly after the crime. The man is also said to have sexually harassed two other women aged 75 and 64. The accused also admitted these allegations in court. Six days of hearings are planned for the trial, and a verdict could come at the end of April.
