The second training session in Imola is now live!

12:58 p.m

FT2: More McLaren problems

Now Norris got it. Brake problems again, we already know that from McLaren this year. The Brit has only done three laps so far. Not the best preparation for the sprint in which he will start from P3.

12:56 p.m

FT2: No further trace …

… by Ricciardo and Bottas. And half of the session is already over. ‘Sky’ reports that the problems at Alfa Romeo are indeed linked to yesterday’s defect. Let’s see if one of the two can still drive in this session.

No change at the top: Perez continues to lead, but he has slightly reduced his best time to 1:19.790. Good news for Mercedes: Russell and Hamilton are behind them in P2 and P3.

But as I just mentioned, it doesn’t say much.

12:45 p.m

FT2: Problem with Bottas too

In addition to Ricciardo, we are only waiting for Bottas, all other 18 drivers were out by now. Alfa Romeo reports that there is also a problem with the Finn.

As a reminder: Bottas rolled out yesterday in Q3 with a defect. Of course, we don’t know if this is related to the current problem.

12:43 p.m

FT2: times

The times are of course not comparable to yesterday. In addition, it makes little sense for the teams to drive fast laps with an empty tank. Because qualifying was yesterday.

So the cars should be full of fuel, because now you only train for sprints and races. Currently, Perez is definitely leading with a 1:19.815, driven on soft tires.

Meanwhile, news from McLaren: ‘Sky’ reports that Ricciardo has a problem with the power unit. And this could take now…

12:37 p.m

FT2: Problem with Ricciardo

Five drivers were not yet on the track – including the Australian. The team reports that there is a “problem”. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this can be resolved quickly.

In addition to him, we are currently only waiting for Latifi, Ocon, Sainz and Bottas.

12:34 p.m

FT2: It’s getting crowded

The drivers have no time to waste. After it was mostly wet and, above all, cool yesterday, everyone now needs the time in the dry. More than half of all pilots were already outside.

Significantly busier than on an FT3 on Saturday. Not much can be changed on the cars, but important tire data can now be collected, among other things.

As a reminder: After the sprint, all 20 drivers have a free choice of tires – and of course tomorrow in the race too.

12:25 p.m

FT2: Open the session ticker now!

The second training session will start soon and for you this is the time again to open our session ticker with Stefan Ehlen. Only there you get the complete coverage of FT2. Here we limit ourselves to the most important information, pictures and voices.

As already mentioned, today is much warmer than yesterday. The asphalt temperature is around 19 degrees, the air temperature even a whopping 31 degrees. We’re excited to see how this plays out!

12:22 p.m

Alpine: Porpoising causes engine problems

After less than four races the first engine penalties are already lurking at Alpine. Engine boss Bruno Famin explains that this is due to the porpoising this year.

“The problems we had didn’t come from the combustion engine itself,” he clarifies, emphasizing: “The combustion engine itself is very good. We didn’t have a single problem.”

Rather, porpoising is the reason why parts of the engine break.

12:11 p.m

That it’s difficult to overtake in Imola…

… had to experience Michael Schumacher firsthand in 2005. In this series of photos we look back on his duel with Fernando Alonso. Will we see a similar classic between Verstappen and Leclerc today (and tomorrow)…?

Lots of new things about the Sprint

In 2021, Formula 1 introduced sprint races for the first time. A few things have changed for 2022! It starts with the most important thing: awarding points. If there were only points for the top 3 in the previous year, the Sprint 2022 was significantly upgraded.

You will find out everything you need to know afterwards in this article!

11:02 a.m

22 years ago today…

… David Coulthard won his home race at Silverstone. The fans remembered the race mainly because of the conditions. Heavy rain meant, among other things, that some of the parking spaces along the route were impassable.

Formula 1 learns from this: in 2001, the Grand Prix returned to its original date in July. After the fiasco with the 2000 edition, he has kept it – with a few exceptions – to this day.

Audi: Everyone would be interested…

Audi is currently looking for a partner to enter Formula 1. We therefore asked who would be interested in such a partnership. And in principle, everyone would not be averse.

Steiner says that one would of course be open, but that there have been no talks yet. Krack and Capito also state that such a partnership would certainly be of interest.

That’s it with the PK, which ends a few minutes earlier today.

10:45 a.m

Krack: want to keep Vettel

Now it’s about the German’s contract, which expires at the end of the year. Krack explains that from the team’s point of view it would be “stupid” not to want to extend the contract.

But he also understands Vettel’s position. The team must give him a car that he deserves. Therefore, he understands that the four-time world champion currently wants to wait and see.
