To mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee, Prince William and other high-ranking royals are touring across the country. Those are the stations.
Duchess Kate (40) and Prince William (39) will lead the celebrations for Queen Elizabeth II’s (96) platinum jubilee across the UK. They will be the most senior members of the royal family to leave London during the festive weekend in early June. Her journey will also take her to Wales, where they lived for a number of years when they married over ten years ago. Princess Anne (71), meanwhile, is visiting Scotland and Prince Edward (58) and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, (57) are visiting Northern Ireland.
In a statement, the palace shared according to “People” magazine stating: “During the central weekend, members of the Royal Family will visit countries in the UK to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. Members of the Royal Family will attend events in each country, including public events to mark the occasion.”
The Queen will not travel
Royal sources indicate that the Queen and her late husband Prince Philip (1921-2021) used to visit many places across Britain on previous years such as the Golden and Diamond Jubilees and in the run-up to the respective June weekends on the Royal Train travelled. This year, that is no longer possible for the Queen either, as at 96 she is limited to less strenuous duties at Windsor Castle. Therefore, the family and their advisors saw fit to send other royals to the more distant regions.
The specific dates and locations for the trips, which are to take place during the central weekend in early June, have not yet been announced.
Main celebrations in London
The main Platinum Jubilee celebrations kick off on June 2nd with the traditional Trooping the Color parade outside Buckingham Palace in London. It was announced on Friday that Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40) have confirmed that they will also travel to the UK next month, but that they will not be on the balcony of Buckingham Palace Parade at the traditional event.
The program in London also includes the Platinum Jubilee Bonfires, which will be lit on the evening of June 2nd. A thanksgiving service will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral on June 3rd. The Horse Derby is scheduled for June 4th at Epsom Downs. In the evening there will be a platinum party at Buckingham Palace. On the last day of the anniversary weekend, June 5th, the big anniversary dinner is on the agenda. The variety of “Big Jubilee Lunches” range from world record attempts for the longest street party to backyard cookouts and everything in between. It is expected that over ten million people across the UK will attend these lunches.
The finale is the parade, in which the golden state carriage is led by the monarch’s escort. With the help of the latest digital technology, the journey to the coronation 70 years ago is to be conveyed. National treasures and celebrities from music, film, sports and the arts will take part in the parade. The highlight is the joint singing of the national anthem “God save the Queen” at around 5 p.m.
