Emma, ​​once Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite pony, has received an award: It now bears the title “Horse of a Lifetime”.

The Queen’s favorite pony (1926-2022) has been honored for his life’s work, so to speak: the readers the newspaper “Horse & Hound” have named the horse the “Horse of a Lifetime”.

Carltonlima Emma, ​​the full name of the popular pony, was presented with a trophy and, probably more importantly for the animal, a sack of carrots. Lizzie Briant, who competed with Emma, ​​accepted the awards on her behalf and said: “Everyone adores her in the Royal Riding Stables – there isn’t a pony in the country that is more loved.”

Emma has attended three pageants at the Royal Windsor Horse Show over the years, including the Queen’s 90th Birthday and her Platinum Jubilee. How important Emma was to the Queen could also be seen at her funeral. There the pony stood beside Royal Stud Manager Terry Pendry – the monarch’s saddle pad and a silk headscarf on Her Majesty’s back.

The horse was at the Queen’s side for 13 years. “Her Majesty respected Emma”, quotes the BBC Pendry, who was unable to attend the ceremony. “She is easy to ride and sure-footed. Emma always enjoyed a carrot from a brown paper bag after riding.” The last ride of the two had taken place in July.

Buckingham Palace assured that the Yorkshire bred Fell Pony would continue to be loved and cared for in Windsor.
