“Bet that..?” and “Go all out!” are already back. Will “The price is hot” now follow? RTL is said to be working on a new edition.

The retro wave on TV doesn’t seem to be abating: As “Bild am Sonntag” reports, the private broadcaster RTL is supposed to be working on a comeback of the game show “The price is hot”. Specifically, three shows, each 90 minutes long, are planned for the time being. According to the report, the original moderator Harry Wijnvoord (72) should be part of the game again. Production is scheduled to start in March, and broadcast is planned for spring.

“The price is hot” originally ran on RTL from 1989 to 1997. However, the adaptation of the US show “The Price is Right” was discontinued due to high production costs. In addition to Wijnvoord, the late Walter Freiwald (1954-2019) hosted the show. The concept: Candidates have to estimate prices as accurately as possible without overbidding the correct price. A new edition on the RTLup station in 2017 with new moderators flopped and was discontinued after a few months.

Retro trend unbroken on TV

RTL is apparently continuing the current retro trend for formerly successful 90s shows unabated: In the course of this, ZDF brought a new edition of “Wetten, dass..?” last year. with Thomas Gottschalk (71) on the way, Sat.1 also celebrated with “Go all out!” a successful comeback with Jörg Draeger (76).
