The prefecture confirms the legality of the building permit

After the degradations committed on the church of Carnac on the night of Saturday June 10 to Sunday June 11, the mayor of the town denounced the attacks and threats against him and his family. Insulted and the target of death threats, Olivier Lepick said he was being protected by the gendarmerie. Accused of having contributed to the destruction of 39 menhirs to make way for a Mr.Bricolage store, the mayor defended himself, explaining that all the steps had been carried out in the rules. Information confirmed by the prefecture of Morbihan, which flew to the aid of the mayor. In a press release, the prefect Pascale Bolot “condemns these actions as well as the unacceptable behavior of which the elected official and his family are victims”. The prefect takes the opportunity to recall “the legal nature of the building permit”.

This assertion is based on the study of administrative documents carried out by the State services to authorize the construction of the DIY store. The regional directorate of cultural affairs (Drac) had mentioned “the non-major nature of the stones discovered” during a diagnosis carried out in 2015. An opinion shared by the architect of the Buildings of France and the commercial development commission which had permit to validate the building permit. In accordance with the local urban plan (PLU), the permit was granted in 2022, authorizing the construction of Mr.Bricolage.

” We’ll never know “

It was only last week that an amateur archaeologist delivered a note denouncing the destruction of these stones, hidden in the vegetation and which constituted a low wall rather than an alignment. On the spot, the residents had generally expressed their support for the mayor, believing that the city of Carnac is already full of stones. “It’s ridiculous as a discovery, I also have stones in my garden”, recalled a pensioner crossed on the spot. Julien Lacaze, president of Sites & Monuments, was not of the same opinion. The latter regrets “the destruction of a site which perhaps concealed treasures”. “But we will never know because the excavations never took place and it is very regrettable. »
