The new boss of arbitration in favor of several developments. Antony Gautier, appointed director of refereeing in November to replace his criticized predecessor Pascal Garibian, wants to end the penalties that affect referees when they use VAR.
“I want the use of video assistance to no longer be penalizing for the rating of referees”, he announced to The Team, while men in black are currently penalized with a lower mark if they consult the VAR. He wants to end it from the 2023-2024 season.
Anthony Gautier also says he is in favor of the sound system for referees, “French football is ready to engage in this development”, he explains while “the decision depends on the IFAB”. He is also in favor of speaking to the media of the refereeing corps after the matches.
