Zelenskyy has found that if he asks a lot from his supporters, he can get far. However, Ukraine will not receive security guarantees from the West anytime soon.
The Secretary General of NATO stated the decision very precisely when he said that all members agreed that the Ukraine to join the alliance. This is exactly what was agreed in 2008, but even then without a specific accession date. And that’s still missing.
A condition has even been added: the war must be over, as emphasized not only by the federal government. Stoltenberg is even more precise and therefore more honest: Ukraine must survive the Russian attack.
Indeed, a Ukraine occupied or ruled by Russia could not be accepted into NATO, nor into the EU.

Zelenskyj will know all this. But he has also learned in recent months that he can go far if he asks a lot of his allies. Nevertheless, he will not get the security guarantees on the way to membership that he wants from the NATO summit in July.

Europe takes Moldova in the middle
Unlike arms shipments, there really is a red line here: at present, any form of formal declaration of assistance would drag the West itself into the war or, if not met, render NATO’s deterrence implausible. Neither would help European security, bitter as it is for Ukraine.
