On December 5, 2018, John Dowling, an English teacher at the Léonard-de-Vinci university center in La Défense, was stabbed several times at the exit of the establishment by one of his former students. Two and a half years after this tragedy, the investigative chamber of the Versailles court of appeal confirmed on Tuesday the criminal irresponsibility of the murderer. The magistrates considered that the various psychiatric expertises carried out during the investigation constituted “sufficient charges”, specifies to 20 minutes a judicial source.

Arrested on the spot, Ali R., 37 years old at the time of the facts, admitted to having struck blows at the teacher whom he accused of having shown in class in 2016 a drawing “insulting to the prophet”. But the version of this student of Pakistani nationality, described as “obsessed” by his dismissal from college, has never been confirmed, no one remembers such an incident. According to the two colleges of experts, the murderer suffered from a “paranoid psychosis” during his act. The magistrates ordered his compulsory hospitalization accompanied by security measures, in particular a ban on appearing in Courbevoie and a ban on the possession of weapons.

Arrived from Pakistan in 2016, Ali R. had started a course in this university center before being excluded a semester later, in particular because of his behavior “inappropriate with women”. The man would then have harbored a deep resentment against the establishment. Before taking action, he had been seen wandering around on numerous occasions.
