The Minister of the Armed Forces Florence Parly blasted Sunday a recent “irresponsible forum” of retired soldiers evoking “the disintegration” of France, greeted by Marine Le Pen who invited its authors to join her, while “the armies are not there to campaign but to defend France ”, according to the minister.

“The irresponsible column published in Current values is only signed by retired soldiers, who no longer have any function in our armies and only represent themselves “, comments Florence Parly on Twitter, recalling that” two immutable principles guide the action of the military vis-à-vis – with regard to the political: neutrality and loyalty ”.

“Serious ignorance of the military institution”

“Madame Le Pen’s words reflect a serious ignorance of the military institution, worrying for someone who wants to become head of the armed forces,” she continues. “The politicization of the armies suggested by Madame Le Pen would weaken our military tool and therefore France. The armies are not there to campaign but to defend France and protect the French, ”concludes the Minister of the Armed Forces.

Current values on Wednesday published an opinion piece launched by former officer Jean-Pierre Fabre-Bernadac, calling on Macron to defend patriotism, signed by “twenty generals, a hundred senior officers and more than a thousand other soldiers”, according to the weekly.

These soldiers denounce the “disintegration” which strikes the fatherland and “which, through a certain anti-racism, is displayed with a single goal: to create on our soil a malaise, even a hatred between the communities”, and a power which “Uses the police as auxiliary agents and scapegoats in the face of French people in yellow vests expressing their despair”. “We are ready to support policies which will take into consideration the safeguard of the nation,” he added.

Indignation on the left

Two days later, Current values published a response from Marine Le Pen: “I invite you to join our action to take part in the battle which is opening (…) which is above all the battle for France”. “As a citizen and as a politician, I subscribe to your analyzes and share your grief,” she wrote.

Part of the left rose up on Saturday after the publication of this forum, while criticizing the government’s lack of reaction. Jean-Luc Mélenchon castigated the “astonishing declaration of soldiers arrogating to themselves the right to call their active colleague to an intervention against the Islamogauchists”. “No reaction from @ florence_parly @ JeanCASTEX nor @ EmmanuelMacron”, denounced Benoît Hamon.
