Eloy de Jong was revealed to be Maximum Power on dance show The Masked Dancer. The former boy band star was glad he could ditch the costume – because he doesn’t like disguises.

The plug is pulled from a superhero: Dutch pop singer Eloy de Jong was eliminated in the semifinals of the ProSieben show “The Masked Dancer”. The 48-year-old received the fewest viewer votes on Thursday evening and had to take off his mask. For the past few weeks, he had appeared as Maximum Power in a purple and orange hero costume with a glittering lightning bolt on his chest.

“I’m actually quite happy that the thing finally came off,” said the singer, who became known in the early 1990s as a member of the boy band Caught in the Act after taking off his mask. But he enjoyed the dancing a lot.

“The Masked Dancer”: juror Alexander Klaws correctly guessed Eloy de Jong

Several clues had already put the jury on the singer’s trail: Tulips were presented as an indication. Finally, Alexander Klaws from the guessing team guessed de Jong, while his colleague Steven Gätjen suspected the entertainer Bürger Lars Dietrich was under the mask. Guest judge Annemarie Carpendale also recommended Benjamin Boyce, who sang with de Jong on Caught in the Act.

With its impressive costume and choreography with robot-like elements, Maximum Power earned a lot of praise from the jury. The superhero danced to Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun.”

In his own words, de Jong wasn’t as happy with the costume as the advice team: he actually doesn’t like to dress up, the musician said after his performance. The tight disguise also made the choreography difficult. The 48-year-old was audibly panting several times while dancing.

In the show, the jury and viewers try to guess disguised celebrities based on their dances and with the help of clues. Ex-boxer Axel Schulz and singer Ute Lemper had already been exposed in the first two episodes.

The remaining four masks will be revealed in the finals on January 27th. Still in the competition are a dancing crayon, a monkey, a mouse and a kind of mop that ProSieben has dubbed Zottel.
