Big news in the “Star Wars” universe. A new film titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu” has now been officially announced.

Jon Favreau (57) will once again dedicate himself to the “Star Wars” universe in 2024. After the series “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett”, the US filmmaker will direct the newly announced film “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, which is now officially scheduled to hit cinema screens and go into production in 2024.

“I love telling stories set in the rich world created by George Lucas,” Favreau is quoted as saying in a statement on the official “Star Wars” homepage. “The prospect of bringing Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

The president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy (70), also raves about the new film project and its main characters: “Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have introduced two new and popular characters in ‘Star Wars’ and this new story fits perfectly on the big screen. ” It is not yet clear when the new film will be released in cinemas worldwide and which actors will appear in it. The “Mandalorian” has so far been portrayed by Pedro Pascal (48) in the series of the same name.

The last “Star Wars” film was released in 2019

Most recently, “The Rise of Skywalker” was released in the cinema in 2019 in the “Star Wars” universe and was directed by JJ Abrams (57). Favreau, who was also responsible for directing “Iron Man,” “Young Sheldon” and the Disney remakes “The Jungle Book” and “The Lion King,” has already gotten a taste of “Star Wars.” He directed and wrote the screenplay for the series “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett” available on Disney+. He served as a producer on the “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka.”

Waiting for “Star Wars: New Jedi Order”

The film “Star Wars: New Jedi Order” has also currently been announced, in which Daisy Ridley (31) will return in her signature role, Rey. The director of the new cinema spectacle is the Pakistani-Canadian filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (45). She will be the first woman and the first person of color to direct a “Star Wars” film. According to speculation, the new “Star Wars” film could be released in cinemas in the next three years. It is not yet known when filming will start.
