Do the Germans want a speed limit on the autobahn?

It is better to drive only 130 km / h on the autobahn than to pay more money for food and energy – this is how many people see it in a recent survey. In any case, we cannot avoid making a contribution to climate protection.
The idea of reducing CO2 emissions by setting a speed limit on German autobahns was one of the most heatedly discussed points of the election campaign. After the election, however, it quickly became clear that the traffic light coalition did not want to introduce a general speed limit. This shows once again that those who protest the loudest are by no means always in the majority.
As a current survey by the “ARD-DeutschlandTrend” shows, the majority of Germans are in favor of a speed limit in favor of climate protection. 60 percent of those surveyed stated that a speed limit of 130 kilometers per hour on motorways was going in the right direction. That is even three percent more than in June. Only 38 percent of those surveyed consider a general speed limit to be the wrong approach.
Citizens prefer speed limits to other methods
Other ways to reduce CO2 and environmental pollution are met with significantly more displeasure among the population. Because there is a threat of rising prices for food, fuel and energy. Currently, only 39 percent of people perceive an increase in the price of animal foods as a correct measure. On the other hand, 57 percent of those questioned reject higher prices for meat and dairy products.
As expected, a possible further increase in the price of petrol met with even more pronounced rejection: 78 percent of those questioned were against it, only 19 percent in favor. Higher energy prices displeased 84 percent of the people, only 14 percent could get used to such a measure. But one way or another in Germany it must be ensured that a contribution to climate protection is made – and it is possible that some citizens will soon think when looking into their wallets that they should perhaps have tried the speed limit.
