The ‘lifeless’ body of the 75-year-old adventurer who was rowing across the Atlantic was found in his dinghy

The body of Jean-Jacques Savin, 75, who had crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a barrel in 2019 before leaving on January 1 for a rowing crossing, “was found lifeless inside the cabin of his canoe,” his team told AFP on Saturday.

The Girondin, who had left from southern Portugal, had not given any sign of life since the night of Thursday to Friday, when he activated his two distress beacons. According to his team, Portuguese maritime security had located his returned boat off the Azores on Friday. This Saturday, “a diver was able to descend and visit the boat”, explained these volunteers.
