Probably even one or the other young Germanist with the headline “Kafka’s widow died” would have to be frightened, because he would have to be reproached for neglecting to find out the last secrets of the good woman while she was still alive. But the “longest serving living Kafka widow”, as he called himself, was a man who has now died at the blessed age of 91.
