It’s been said over and over again that the left is in danger of splitting, but that’s not entirely true. The secession of the so-called Wagenknecht camp would be less of a threat to the party than a liberation. At first glance, it would possibly result in the loss of parliamentary group status in the Bundestag. But it would offer the great – and perhaps last – chance to start a new left-wing project in time for the 2025 federal election.
