The jubilee comes to an end: the Queen waves at the end

Celebrations of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth’s 70th jubilee draw to a close with a pageant and street parties across the country. At the end, the monarch greeted again from the balcony.

At the front of the parade is the royal carriage: an 18th-century vehicle in gold. As early as 1953, Queen Elizabeth II drove in it from Buckingham Palace to the coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey. It is the prelude to a parade intended to represent the 70 years of her reign. Numerous soldiers in parade uniforms ride the carriage.

“An excellent job”

Carol is thrilled to see the carriage: who knows when it will be out here again. And all the people cheering for their Queen – that’s great, she says. Sandra and Janet came to the pageant because they love the Queen. You did an excellent job – completely selfless.

The procession leads from Whitehall via the boulevard “The Mall” to Buckingham Palace. The street is decorated with large flags, hundreds of thousands follow the spectacle. Among them are the royal family, who are seated in a specially designed grandstand: the heir to the throne, Prince Charles and Duchess Camilla, are among the visitors, as are Prince William, Duchess Kate and the children. The parade is the culmination and conclusion of the four-day celebrations of the Queen’s 70th jubilee.

The Queen shows up again

At the end, Queen Elizabeth II showed up to the enthusiastic crowd again: the 96-year-old monarch stepped onto the balcony of Buckingham Palace, smiled and waved at the thousands of onlookers. The palace was the end point of the colorful street parade.

Around 90,000 street parties also took place across the country today – such as in the London Borough of Walthamstow. Rachel helped organize the party here. 70 years – that’s a great moment: “We want to celebrate that, everyone together, we have many different cultures on the street here, people from many countries,” says Rachel. “There’s delicious food, great drinks. There’s a bouncy castle for the kids, games, we’re having a lot of fun!”

Queen play for the queen

More than 20,000 people attended a concert at Buckingham Palace last night, featuring the band Queen, Diana Ross, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Alicia Keys. Finally, Prince Charles thanked his mother for serving the nation. The reason that gets his mother up every morning is because of her people, Prince Charles said to great jubilation.
