The joys of freezing – Bavaria

The intellectual channel Arte recently showed a film about the joys of freezing. A young Finn bathed in the ice hole at minus 27 degrees. This is a temperature at which arctic foxes sometimes break off their tails. But the wife thought it was all really great, especially the shivering afterwards, you really feel that you are alive and stuff. The whole documentary went in the direction that you should shock freeze yourself regularly.

If you’re shivering in front of the TV at 18.5 degrees in energy-saving mode, you’re already asking yourself whether the sauna isn’t a better invention than the ice hole. In general, the social pressure that you have to harden your affluent body is growing. Alcohol abstinence, smoking ban and fitness training are no longer enough. A weekend is at its best when you use it for intermittent fasting and tame your erratic mind by avoiding media. The effect of such measures can be increased with cold applications: even a short bath in the freezer works wonders. But be careful: the cold can be deadly, as research shows. So never close the lid of the chest or at least ask your partner to check after 30 minutes at the latest.

The cold cult has meanwhile also reached his own son. He swam in the Kochelsee at Christmas, a body of water that is too cold to swim in even in July. He used the Wim Hof ​​method, a special form of breathing technique that makes you invincible. In 2007, cold activist Hof hiked up to 7,400 meters in jeans and sandals in the Himalayas. The former soccer player Andre Schürrle copied him and conquered a mountain at minus 19 degrees and 100 kilometers wind speed. For this he got almost 40,000 likes on Instagram. On the summit photo, however, Schürrle looks really bad. He wrote “I can do everything” while still under the influence of hypothermia.

So it’s high time to take off the Angora underwear and take part in the exercise. The temperature in Munich’s Michaelibad was reduced to 25 degrees. A good start. In March, the Burghausen ice swimmers invite you to a three-day training camp. You can already register for this. With a bit of luck it will already be summer.
