Heat wave: Burning peak of mercury this Monday to the borders of Brittany
Will Monday be the hottest day? The map of France has turned crimson over a large part of the Atlantic coast, with 15 departments on heatwave red vigilance, including Gironde, where the fire returned to intensity on Sunday evening. No one is safe anymore: the peak of this 45th heat wave recorded in France since 1947 is expected on the western facade, especially in Brittany so far protected by ocean entrances. The proliferation of these extreme weather events is a direct consequence of global warming according to scientists, with greenhouse gas emissions increasing in intensity, duration and frequency.
War in Ukraine: Zelensky dismisses the general prosecutor and the head of security
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky sacked the country’s chief prosecutor and security service on Sunday night over suspicions of treason by some of their subordinates to benefit the Russians, as an EU meeting to to tighten sanctions against Moscow. “I have taken the decision to relieve Prosecutor General” Iryna Venediktova, “and the head of the security services” (SBU) Ivan Bakanov from their duties, Zelensky said, as Russia continues its bombardment of several Ukrainian cities.
Inflation: The purchasing power bill enters the Assembly this Monday
Promised to the French in the summer in the face of galloping inflation, the bill on purchasing power and its myriad of support measures arrive Monday in the hemicycle of the Assembly, where the oppositions will storm proposals new aid. The bill of 20 articles “on emergency measures for the protection of purchasing power” passes first reading until Thursday, with more than a thousand amendments to the key. MEPs will continue with the examination of the draft amending budget for 2022 which should make it possible to finance and supplement these measures.
