The Haute Autorité de Santé recommends the vaccination of adolescents in stages

After Emmanuel Macron’s announcement to make vaccination accessible to 12-18 year olds from mid-June, the High Health Authority issued its opinion on the issue this Thursday morning. For the HAS, there is indeed “a direct and indirect individual benefit” as well as “a collective benefit of the vaccination of adolescents against Covid”.

However, she recommends proceeding with this vaccination campaign step by step and opening it “very quickly” to 12-15 year olds with frailty or living in the entourage of vulnerable people. TheHAS recommends on the other hand to wait until the vaccination of adults is “sufficiently advanced” before generalizing it to this age group.

Only with Pfizer vaccine

The opinion of the HAS concerns the use of the Pfizer vaccine, which is the first to have received, last Friday, the green light for use in the European Union among 12-15 year olds. He already had a marketing authorization from the age of 16, but until now, 16-17 year olds could only be vaccinated in France in certain specific cases (diseases exposing them to a high risk of a severe form of Covid or adolescents living in the entourage of an immunocompromised person).

The President of the Republic announced on Wednesday an expansion of the vaccination campaign to all 12-18 year olds from June 15. So far, 50.6% of those over 18 have received a first dose of the vaccine, of which 21.8% have received two injections.
