While Emmanuel Macron wants a “big debate” on drugs, the Minister of the Interior recalls that the fight against drug trafficking is one of his priorities. With this in mind, Gérald Darmanin also seeks to warn consumers. The government will thus launch “before the end of the summer” a campaign to raise awareness against drugs, he announced in an interview with Sunday newspaper.
It must be said that the message on the subject must be a little dusted off. “The last drug awareness campaign dates back 30 years! “, Notes the minister. The next campaign will be placed under the authority of the Prime Minister.
On the repressive side, Gerald Darmanin affirms that the police services have carried out since January “more than 1,300 operations of dismantling of the points of deal”, with “important and regular seizures” to the key. In addition, “more than 70,000 criminal fines” have been issued to consumers since September 1, the date of their generalization.
The Minister of the Interior is also alarmed by the fact that “cannabis has become a hard drug”. To support this assertion, Gérald Darmanin insists on the “considerable” increase in the level of THC, the psychotropic molecule of cannabis.
