The Gilbert & George Center in London’s East End has opened – culture

On the day of the official opening of their arts center in London’s Heneage Street, Gilbert & George are of course available. In the warm, light wood entrance area with its low ceiling, the duo stands, perfectly dressed in tweed, as usual, and receives – well, who? fans? Admirer? onlookers? A teenager has appeared with a Lego car model, which he and his mother are showing to the artists. Very nice, thinks Gilbert. George thinks so too. Then a man with a (not meant seriously?) mustache and an (ironic?) football scarf lets himself be photographed with the two of them on his iPhone, who position themselves with such routine that one can probably only do it after decades of continuous public performance.
