From tomorrow, Parisian motorists will have to ease off! They will no longer be able to exceed 30 km / h in the streets of Paris, against 50 km / h currently. After Grenoble, Lille or even Montpellier, it is therefore the capital’s turn to lower the speed limit in its streets.
This measure, taken in consultation with the police headquarters, aims first to improve road safety, to “reduce noise pollution” and to “adapt” the city to climate change, argued David Belliard (EELV), the deputy for transport and roads to the mayor PS Anne Hidalgo.
[🗓️] On Monday August 30, Paris goes to 30! Reduce speed to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, to reduce noise, to calm our neighborhoods. A measure consistent with the transformation of Paris that we are leading ⤵️ https://t.co/bPqiFFnQXb

Some major axes spared
The limitation to 30 km / h, which in fact already concerned 60% of Parisian roads, will therefore be generalized from Monday to the entire capital. There will however be a few exceptions, such as the boulevards des Maréchaux, two portions of the quays of the Seine, certain roads in the Bois de Boulogne and Vincennes, some major axes in the west of Paris (Champs-Elysées, Foch, Grande Armée, rue Royale) , major axes of the 12th (east) and 14th (south) which remain limited to 50 km / h. The ring road, which the City would like to pass at 50 km / h, remains limited to 70 km / h.
The city of Paris reduces the speed of circulation to 30 km / h from Monday (with the exception of some major axes). I give you some thoughts and figures on this highly controversial subject 🚶♂️🚲 🚘 👇 pic.twitter.com/BytGgeeq9u

According to a consultation conducted at the end of 2020 by the City, “59% of Parisians were in favor of reducing the speed to 30 km / h in the streets of the capital on the condition that certain axes remain at 50 km / h”. But the measure is still today bitching some motorists, especially craftsmen who cross Paris regularly.
