The gendarmes seize 600 liters of alcohol and do not consume it

Last Thursday, a resident of Roubaix, in the North, was condemned by the court of Charleville-Mézières, in the Ardennes, for a refusal to comply committed at the beginning of the year. If the man had managed to flee, the gendarmes had discovered contraband alcohol in his vehicle. A seizure that the soldiers claim not to have consumed.

The facts date back to February 24, in Sachy, in the Ardennes. Police motorcyclists tried to control a speeding vehicle but the driver refused to stop and fled. A few kilometers later, the fugitive hit a car, injuring its driver, and managed to walk away, abandoning his van.

No evening organized at the expense of the defendant

Arrived on the spot, the gendarmes had discovered in the back of the van “more than 600 liters of alcohol” from Luxembourg. The goods had been seized “in the presence of two witnesses”. In self-mockery and to cut short the bad language, the gendarmes specified that they had not organized “any evening or consumed all or part of this seizure”.

In the process, an investigation was opened to find the man. The latter had finally been identified and arrested, at the beginning of May, at his home in Roubaix. He was tried a few days later by the Charleville-Mézières judicial court and sentenced to six months in prison with adjustment of sentence for “refusal to comply aggravated by the endangerment of others”. His license has also been canceled and he will not be able to claim it again for a month. His van was destroyed.

For injuries to the driver of the vehicle hit, driving without insurance and transporting alcohol without authorization, the defendant was sentenced in addition to four months’ imprisonment, suspended probation for a period of two years.
