The French pessimistic about their finances

Strangled by inflation, the French are pessimistic about their financial situation and the evolution of the standard of living. Household morale continued to decline in June for the sixth consecutive month, INSEE reported on Tuesday. The indicator which summarizes household confidence lost three points and fell to 82, well below the long-term average which is 100, and lost three points over one month, specifies the National Institute of Statistics.

The balance of opinion of the French on their past financial situation has lost two points compared to the month of May, and the outlook for this same situation has fallen by one point. The proportion of households that consider it appropriate to make major purchases has fallen by five points.

The financial future looks uncertain

The share of households who consider that the standard of living has improved over the past twelve months is falling, as is the share of those who believe that this level will rise over the next twelve months, further details INSEE in its press release.

The share of households who consider that prices have increased over the past twelve months is at its highest since the summer of 2008, on the eve of the financial crisis. But the French seem less fearful of future inflation, the share of those who believe that prices will accelerate over the next twelve months continuing to fall. Finally, the fear of unemployment rebounded slightly, but remained at a very low level.
