The famous cave of Mas-d’Azil briefly closed after the fall of a 200 kg rock

Those who wanted to take advantage of the Indian summer to dive this Tuesday into Cave prehistoric village of Mas-d’Azil, in Ariège, made the trip for nothing. The tourist site remained closed for a good part of the day. The fault of a rock, not huge but weighing 200 kg all the same which, this Tuesday morning, at 11 a.m., fell “from the porch of the southern entrance to the cave”, indicates the Ariège Departmental Council. He fell on the road “without causing any injuries”.

As a precaution, the departmental road, the RD119, has been closed and diversions have been introduced for both heavy goods vehicles and cars. And a Toulouse company “specialized in the treatment of cliffs” was called to the bedside of the famous cave to carry out a diagnosis. Reassuring, since the road reopened on Tuesday evening and the cave, which the community planned to close until Friday, will resume service on Wednesday. With a second attraction: the unpredictable rock was left by the side of the road.
