Did you miss the early morning news? We have concocted a recap to help you see more clearly.

the European Union wanted to show its unity and its firmness vis-à-vis the Belarusian regime of Alexander Lukashenko. European leaders decided Monday evening to close their airspace to Belarusian planes and adopt a new set of sanctions against the country, accused of having rerouted a European airliner to arrest dissident Roman Protassevich. The EU has demanded his immediate release. This Tuesday, it is NATO’s turn to meet to discuss the situation. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a UN-dependent body, has also called an emergency meeting, but for Thursday morning.

Mali cannot get out of the political crisis. Authors of a coup in August 2020, the military again showed the muscles on Monday. Unhappy with the government announced by the transitional authorities a few hours earlier, they arrested the president and the prime minister. Bah Ndaw and Moctar Ouane were taken under duress by soldiers to the Kati military camp, a few kilometers from Bamako. It is already there that the elected president Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta had been forcibly led on August 18, 2020 by putschist colonels to announce his resignation. These are apparently the same colonels who are on the maneuver nine months later.

The huge party which gathered at least 8,000 people on the night from Sunday to Monday on the Grand’Place in Lille to celebrate the title of Ligue 1 champion of Losc raises fears of a new cluster. Monday morning, the regional health agency (ARS) des Hauts-de-France therefore called the participants to order to avoid having to face a rapid spread of the coronavirus. “Dear supporters, to fully celebrate our champions of France: Gestures barriers”, wrote the ARS on Twitter. Above all, the Agency asked them to “reduce contacts in the coming days” and to carry out a “preventive test from the middle of the week and isolation if necessary”.
