The epidemic is nearing the end in mainland France

Despite the summer temperatures and the scorching sun, the last flu patients are still there at the beginning of May. This year, the epidemic was particularly late, whereas it usually reaches its peak at the very beginning of the year, or even at the end of the previous year. This year, it peaked in early spring, a delay partly due to sanitary measures against Covid-19.

But that’s it, the end is near. The past week has been marked by the “continued decrease in most influenza indicators at national and regional level”, summarized Public Health France in its weekly review. In mainland France, all the regions have now moved into the “post-epidemic” phase and are therefore no longer in an epidemic situation strictly speaking.

However, this means that the virus continues to circulate. A region can, moreover, go back from a post-epidemic phase to an epidemic situation, as was the case for example in Île-de-France a few weeks ago. However, such a situation seems unlikely at this advanced time of the year, the return of fine weather notably limiting contacts inside. In addition, overseas, the department of Mayotte is going into an epidemic phase.
