In Germany, an era is coming to an end after eight years – the era of negative interest for bank customers. For a few weeks now, credit institutions have been gradually abolishing the penalty interest rate of mostly 0.5 percent or at least significantly increasing the exemption amount. According to data from the internet portal Verivox, there are now 23 banks. Nine of them have already eliminated negative interest, five others will do so on July 1, and nine have increased their allowances.
