“The defendants are unable to give an explanation” for the acts of barbarism, according to the expert-psychiatrist

“They are all interdependent and have built an evil alliance. “At the helm, the psychiatrist tries to analyze what happened for ten days, in December 2018. Ten days during which little Joris *, 2 and a half years old at the time, suffered violence unheard of, qualified as an act of barbarism by justice.

In particular, on the evening of Friday, December 14. Sébastien B. and his wife Coraline R., as well as two friends, Kévin and Jordan D., are accused of having let off steam, drunk, on the child deemed too turbulent. The list of abuses is long and hardly audible, the child being used as a soccer ball, at the height of the violence. He made it out alive, by some miracle, when his mother finally took him to the hospital.

“They are all together, in this camera”

On the 7th day of this extraordinary trial, at the Assizes of the North, in Douai, saw a doctor from Lille, an expert psychiatrist, come to discuss the profile of the six accused. Because on the bench are also Christine P., the mother of Joris *, for previous violence on the child and Audrey R., the wife of one of the respondents, for non-denunciation.

“They are all together, in this camera,” he explains after drawing portraits of individuals dented by existence and often chaotic childhood. “Why do we come to these unsustainable acts?” he asks. In this case, we have two brothers, two sisters and a couple: Sébastien B. and his mistress, Christine P. [la mère de Joris*]. This couple is part of a passionate connotation. This child disturbs this couple. »

And to cite three other northern cases that resonate in echo: Marc, 5 years old, beaten to death by his stepfather, in 2005, in Auby; Typhaine, 5 years old, murdered by her mother and stepfather, in 2009, in Aulnoye-Aymeries and Yanis, 4 years old, killed by her stepfather because he had wet the bed, in 2017, in Aire- on-the-Lys.

“It is a tragedy of hatred and revenge. »

“Each time, we find three types of motivation: correcting the education of a child, forcing him within a parental recomposition and removing the brake on the happiness of the couple, analyzes the expert. By harassing a child, they think they are counteracting their own bruises, the brutality of which they themselves have been victims. They think that this gesture can give them access to an impossible happiness. It is a tragedy of hatred and revenge. »

Hence the relentlessness with which Joris*. was a victim, but also the violence that punctuates the education of the daughters of Sébastien B. and the other son of Christine P. For the psychiatrist, “we should not expect an explanation for their gesture, they are totally incapable of it”.

“So there’s no point in me asking all these why questions? I will have no answer? “, worries the president of the court. “You will not have answers, confirms the expert. But I hope we’re not doing this for nothing. “. “But then, in that case, what am I going to tell the children? », Then asks their lawyer, Me Alain Reisenthel. Heavy silence.

“Like nitroglycerin…”

In the corridors, Loïc Bussy, lawyer for Sébastien B., the main defendant in this case, confides: “This analysis was very important. It allows us to understand the unconscious mechanism of acting out”. According to him, “the group effect and alcohol undeniably played a part, but it was a multiplicity of factors that allowed the commission of the facts. Like nitroglycerin, just waiting to explode at the slightest spark. »

The result is a child plunged into an artificial coma to be operated on. And four years later, the pathologist who examined him and the surgeon who operated on him still remember him.
