Fans are eagerly awaiting the fifth season of “The Crown”. The creators of the Netflix series are said to already have plans for a spin-off series.

Will the successful Netflix series “The Crown” soon have an offshoot? As the US industry magazine “Deadline” reportsthe streaming service is in initial talks with the production company Left Bank, which is also responsible for the parent series.

It is supposed to be a prequel and thus tell the history of “The Crown”. The first season of the Netflix series is dedicated to the period from 1947 to 1956. According to “Deadline”, the spin-off could, for example, deal with the end of Queen Victoria’s reign (1819-1901) or the pre-World War II period. The British “Daily Mail” had previously reported that as many as five spin-off series are planned over said time span. Netflix itself has not yet commented on possible offshoot series.

But first, the fifth season of “The Crown” is coming up. It is about the 1990s in the British royal family, it will end with the accidental death of Princess Diana (1961-1997) and Dodi Al-Fayed (1955-1997) on August 31, 1997. As Queen actress Imelda Staunton (66) explained in a Netflix clip on Twitter in September 2021, the fifth season should be shown in November 2022.

Season five of “The Crown” will be the penultimate. The sixth and final season is set to take place in the early 2000s. The fourth season of the Netflix series about the British royal family alone won seven Emmys, including best drama series and for leading actress Olivia Colman (48) as Queen Elizabeth II. (95).
