She appeared this week before the Commission on Constitutional Rights and Guarantees of the Legislative Assembly of Mendoza to request full transparency on the way in which the investigation was conducted that led to the release of the two players she accuses of raping her on July 7, 2024 in their hotel room.
Although Oscar Jego and Hugo Auradou were able to return to France and a dismissal of the case is increasingly likely in Argentina, the alleged victim is not giving up. She spoke at length in the columns of Parisian to clear up the gray areas of his version and share his distress: “I am demoralized, anxious. I suffer from panic attacks, I have nightmares every night, I wake up crying and screaming. I can’t sleep anymore. I still don’t understand how these players were released and allowed to return to France. They are two rapists, two rotten apples who should never have the right to play rugby again.”
Asked about the inconsistencies noted by the Argentine justice system in her story, the 39-year-old complainant replied firmly: “There is no flaw. […] I suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Images of that night come back to me in flashes as time passes. I remember those moments in sequences. The players were totally drunk. So was I. […] The players’ lawyers are trying to make people believe that my injuries are the result of an illness (Villebrand syndrome). But how do they explain the pain? I was in so much pain everywhere that I overdosed on medication and ended up in hospital with an ulcer. I’m strong, I fought, I screamed, but I couldn’t stop them.”
While the young woman remains resolute – “I want them to be convicted. They raped me, assaulted me and treated me like a piece of meat”, she deplores her “powerlessness against the financial means of these players” and denounces a conflict of interest that has had little echo in France: Jegou and Auradou’s Argentinian lawyer is none other than the brother of the current Minister of Justice, which in fact casts a veil over the fairness of the procedure. It is for this reason that her two lawyers have asked the prosecution for explanations on possible irregularities during the investigation.
