Anne Hidalgo strikes back. Since the end of March, the mayor of Paris has been bludgeoned on Twitter for the lack of cleanliness in the streets of the city, but also for the maintenance and the choice of street furniture. The elected socialist is the target of attacks from the opposition, and Internet users on Twitter behind the hashtag #rassageParis.

Anne Hidalgo, who denounced a “smear campaign”, was questioned on the subject this Thursday morning on France 2. Is the capital more beautiful since his first term in 2014? “Yes”, replied the city councilor. “For 20 years, since the arrival of Bertrand Delanoë [en 2001], then in 2014. And besides, all the international rankings and the influence that Paris has taken on prove it ”.

Promises on cleanliness

“We have shown that we are a capital with an exceptional heritage, I have renovated this Parisian heritage a lot (…) I am thinking of many many embellishments that have been made”, welcomed the mayor of Paris, reminding her opponents that the voters had moreover reelected her in the last municipal elections.

Anne Hidalgo promised to initiate “before the summer” the decentralization of certain skills, including cleanliness, from the central town hall to the 17 district town halls. She also maintained that she wanted to double, during her second term, from 500 million to one billion euros the budget dedicated to the maintenance and renovation of the streets of the capital.
