Did you know ? Gaspar Noé had already filmed, with love, people older than him (Philippe Nahon in Carne and Alone Against All). However, Vortex is inspired by his recent personal experiences: “The film probably refers to the void that surrounds us and in which we float. I have also been told that the film is reminiscent of Enter the Void in the sense that its subject is the great void that is life and not death”says the filmmaker.

Did you know ? A Chiara completes a triptych around the Calabrian town of Gioia Tauro, begun with Mediterranea then A Ciambra. When he arrived in Gioia Tauro in 2010, Jonas Carpignano witnessed violent race riots after two African migrants were attacked, which inspired him for Mediterranea. In A Ciambra, he became interested in the city’s Roma community.

“I really wanted the film to reflect the country, its inhabitants, the textures of Beirut. I was not trying to create empathy with my character on a supposed drama. It’s more a game of signs where everything contributes to the plunged into a certain state.”
