The Champs-Elysées are the European avenue that came out of the Covid crisis the best

It is not called “the most beautiful avenue in the world” by chance. The Champs-Elysées have regained a level of attendance 23% higher than the pre-Covid-19 period, according to a study carried out by Mytraffic, the European leader in flow analysis. It is also the only one of the other metropolises studied (Amsterdam, Rome, Madrid, Berlin, London and Brussels) in this case. Still according to MyTraffic, there were on average in May 2022, 880,000 passages in front of a shop, which constitutes an increase of 102% compared to the previous year.

This is good news for the economic actors of the Champs-Elysées when we expected a return to pre-Covid levels in 2023. According to the study, this strong rebound can be explained by three factors: “Dynamism financial back, return of tourists and above all pre-Paris 2024 emulation”. Also taken into account is the avenue’s redevelopment project, announced in May by Anne Hidalgo and the Champs-Élysées Committee which “will make the avenue greener and harmonize all its terraces”.

In this ranking of the most resilient commercial arteries, the Champs-Elysées are ahead of the Leidsestraat in Amsterdam (+55% attendance over one year) and the Via Corso in Rome (+49%).
