On the occasion of Heritage Days, the town hall of the 18th arrondissement of Paris officially launched the candidacy of the Butte Montmartre to become part of Unesco’s “intangible heritage”. A call for signatures to support it was also put
in line.
“Proposing the classification of Montmartre as a UNESCO World Heritage Site also means learning to recognize, and sometimes to know, the diversity of the neighborhoods that surround it and constantly dialogue with it”, underlines the mayor of the 18th arrondissement Eric Lejoindre .
The project was voted on by the Borough Council as well as the Paris Council. A file must henceforth be made up to submit this candidacy, the outcome of which should not be known for at least two years.
