Does the opera fit into the museum? A few weeks ago, the exhibition “The Opera is Dead – Long Live the Opera!” opened in the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn, curated by Katharina Chrubasik and Alexander Meier-Dörzenbach. The first part of the title has often been prophesied about the opera since it was invented in Florence around 430 years ago. Sometimes it was considered a relic of courtly times, then it was too expensive, too cumbersome, too elitist, so out of date that it was immediately recommended to blow up the opera houses. But it still exists, the opera. But is she actually still alive?
