the bones found in the Pyrenees are from the British

The bones recently found near a path in the French Pyrenees are those of a British hiker who disappeared since last November, her family said on Friday after a DNA test. Esther Dingley, 37, drove to Spain from France at the end of October, before the second confinement decided by the French authorities. She wanted to benefit from more flexible traffic conditions in Spain for a mountain hike.

She had not given any sign of life since a WhatsApp message sent on November 22, 2020. Her companion, who remained in France, had given the alert and significant research resources had been deployed on both sides of the border.

Only one bone found and no signs of equipment or clothing

“We regret to announce that we have received confirmation by DNA that one of the bones found last week belongs to Esther,” said his companion Daniel Colegate and his mother Ria Bryant in a statement sent by the LBT Global association. “At this point, with a single bone found and no sign of any equipment or clothing in the immediate area (which was searched meticulously for several days), details of what happened, and where it happened. ‘has passed, still remain unknown,’ they added. “Search and rescue teams intend to continue their search on foot and with drones,” they continued.

The couple had been traveling across Europe in motorhomes for six years, according to a BBC portrayal of them. The companion had told the BBC to have stayed to guard a house in a Gascony vineyard while his companion had taken their camper van for her trip.
